This will give us more under cabinet space/backsplash space, and keep the shelves and our dishware within a comfortable arms reach without me having to climb up on a stool to reach things. Im planning to raise the first shelf up to between 18-20″ from the countertop, and only have 2 floating shelves spaced about 12″ between them. We currently only have 16″ between the countertop and the bottom of the cabinets, and there are 6 shelves in the cabinets that go pretty much to the ceiling. Our current upper cabinets(original to the house) are coming out so we can install floating shelves. Our ceiling height is only juuuust under 8ft in our kitchen, and we have about 59″ from our countertop to the ceiling, so we dont have soaring ceilings and tons of wall to work with. Would you mind sharing what your ceiling height is? Also how high up did you go with your backsplash tile before you placed your first floating shelf? This is the one detail that’s giving me the most headache with our remodel. We are about to start the next phase of our kitchen reno on Friday ( EEEP!) and I wanted to get an idea on perspective using your space. and BOY is your kitchen a treat! Its just so freakin good. Hi Justina! Im just getting back from Mexico and playing catch up on all that I missed last week….
